Jennifer Freedman
Vocalist | Percussionist | Lyricist
Jennifer is a dynamic vocalist, percussionist, and lyricist whose musical journey began in 2004 with formal percussive training and rhythm reading. Her early development took a major leap when she began working with a percussion instructor who led a 17-piece mambo big band. Within six months, Jennifer was invited to observe rehearsals and, in a moment of opportunity, stepped in as a substitute percussionist. That one experience sparked two years as the band's regular percussionist—where she developed her sight-reading skills and performed alongside professional musicians including Jennifer Vincent, Cecilia Tenconi, Frederic Las Vargas, John Walsh, Guido Gonzalez, Luisa Parrot and many more.
Not long after, her vocal talents emerged. Familiar with the band’s material, Jennifer volunteered to fill an open background vocalist spot. Her vocal versatility—particularly in second and third harmonies—quickly became an asset, further shaping her identity as a multi-talented performer.
In 2015, her artistry deepened during a visit to El Museo del Barrio in Harlem, where she connected with the Conservatory for the Performing Arts. There, her abilities as a vocalist were recognized by José Luis Quiles (formerly of Héctor Lavoe’s Orq.), who introduced her to legendary bandleader Louie Bauzo. With mentorship from Bauzo, Omar Castaños, and David Oquendo, Jennifer began evolving into a lead vocalist.
Today, Jennifer brings passion, professionalism, and a wide stylistic range to every project—spanning Salsa, Latin jazz, Cumbia, Son, Merengue, Reggaeton, Hip Hop, and R&B. Her experience includes live performance, studio recording, commercial voiceovers, and songwriting.
